Long-term objective

Strengthened contribution of energy to poverty reduction and development activities of the participating countries with focus on improving the access to energy services for the rural poor. 

Immediate objective

Increased understanding by government officials and other stakeholders in participating countries of the links between energy and rural poverty; and conceptualisation and mobilisation of support for specific actions that will follow-up on the Nairobi recommendations.

Outputs

  • Capacity of 60 officials and stakeholders enhanced

  • 24 high level officials participated in policy dialogue and supporting Nairobi follow-up actions

  • Country specific (or regional) concepts for action on rural energy and poverty alleviation identified

Activities

The Facilitation Workshops and Policy Dialogues focus on access to sustainable energy and the linkages to poverty reduction in rural areas in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA), and aim at identifying specific actions to be implemented as part of the EUEI-Africa partnership. The events each comprise of two parts:

  • A Facilitation Workshop for senior officials and professionals from relevant bodies such as government ministries and authorities, power regulators, NGOs and the private sector.

  •  A high-level Policy Dialogue for Ministers and senior officials (Directors, Permanent Secretaries) including participants from the Facilitation Workshop.
